How to commission art by Todd from around the world

When I told my friend Cristina that Lauren and I would be visiting Spain, she got very excited, telling us that we had to visit Granada, the Alhambra, and drink lots of tinto veranos. During her semester-long study-abroad program, she fell in love with Spain and the summery drink. To help keep her treasured memories as fresh as a tinto verano, Cristina commissioned me to make a drawing of the Andalusian town.

Here it is, Cristina, A Day in Granada with Tinto Verano (8"x 10", mixed media on paper), online and on its way to you via international mail.

You too can commission custom art from our travels. It's easy, affordable and unique. Here's how:

(Faithful email and RSS readers, please visit www.ephemerratic.com to read the rest of the dispatch. Full feeds appear impossible.)

  1. Decide what art you want to commission. See the section "How to Request the Art You Want" below for guidelines on how this works and what to tell me.
  2. Send me an email at

Be sure to include the details on the art you want and your mailing address.
  3. I'll email you back to confirm your request as soon as I can get online. My email will include instructions for paying securely via Paypal.
  4. When the art is finished, I'll put it in the mail and let you know it's on the way. This may take weeks or months depending on what you request and international mail.
  • Size: 8"x10", will be either horizontal or vertical, depending on what I come up with
  • Price: $65 (includes shipping)

How to Request the Art You Want

Here's some guidelines on what you can tall me to help me make the best commissioned work for you.

  • Subject: Ask for specific features, for example landscape, architecture, people, animals, food, a staircase. Ask for one or more, and I'll fit as much as I can, as long as it makes the best art for you. Or, you may be more esoteric in your request, for example "the passage of time" or "the power of nature."
  • Reality Factor: Would you like the drawing to be more literal or more interpretive? I can draw a landscape just as I see it, capturing the beauty of nature in expressive lines and colors or I can reinterpret what I see using mixed viewpoints and other techniques to try and better capture the spirit of a place. The drawing, View of Granada with tinto verano, for example, is somewhat interpretive.
  • Location, Location, Location: Is there a place you like most in this world? Then, check our route to see if we're heading there and request art inspired by that country. Please, be sure to make your request at least three weeks before we'll arrive.
  • Indecisive? Just ask for an "artist's choice" and I'll make sure to send you something pretty.

I'll do my best to satisfy your requests, but please understand that some requests will be easier to satisfy than others. If I have any concerns about your request, I will be sure to ask before starting.

All commissioned art will be done in my colorful, expressive style, so check out some of my work to make sure you'll enjoy the end results - see my travel drawings on Flickr or TheArtDontStop.org for examples.

When you make a request for custom art, you become a participant in the process. Your ideas will inspire a drawing that I would not have thought of on my own. Thank you.

todd- you captured it! thank you. i love it and love that memories poured back when i saw it. you are awesome. i know exactly what plaza you were in when you drew it. and the best part...i went skinny dipping in that fountain! ha!

regarding the alhambra - i don't recognize anything you wrote about
when i was there (a decade ago), it wasn't very visitor friendly (4 languages) and tix were never sold out. we would actually meet up there once a week and study there with a group of friends
there was a bench we loved with a view. i'm a little sad to hear its become such a destination.

love to you both
